Week 22 6/5 through 6/11
The Weekly goal was 13 hours for the week and I got in 12. All in all it was a good week. On Wednesday, I finally got my bike. It was supposed to have been done on Monday but the shop was busy and could not get me in for a fitting until Wed. As soon as I got home I took it out for a ride around the neighborhood. The next day I took it out again. My original assessment was not good. I was not crazy about the way it fit. That all changed after the ride on Saturday morning. Having it out on the road in an area that had less hills made all the difference. Once out on the open road, it felt really comfortable. I am glad that is behind me. Next week, I ship my bike out to CDA so I only have about three more days to ride on it. After that,, it will be in the Ironman that I get to ride it.
Long run on Sunday was 11 miles. We started off with 1.2 mile repeats at tempo plus. I ran them in a 8:30 mile pace so that was good. It is a lot faster than I am used to. It was fun to run fast again and not have my leg bother me at all. I think that everything is starting to line up. A couple more good bike rides and I think I will be able to say,, I am ready.
Highlight of the week: Two of them. Number 1, not complaining about my leg and not wrecking my bike. That is actually one and two, I have three highlights. We had a dinner party with a bunch of the T3 athletes. It was nice to be with these people. Normally we are sweating, swimming and wearing ourselves out. We actually took time out and relaxed with one another. It was a great evening. We also watched a video of the CDA Ironman from 2004. It looks like a beautiful place. The swim start was pretty intense. In short,, it scared the hell out me to watch the swim start. It looked like a wall of people about 50 yards long and 20 yards deep,, all rushing into the water together. I think I will be well in the back of the pack. On the bright side, there will be people there to rip your wetsuit off of you when you get off the swim course. I think that my wetsuit stripper will be Claudia Shiffer,, at least that is the image I will have to get me through the swim.
