How to Eat your way across Idaho and portions of the Northwest
I think NASA made it to the moon with less planning for nutrition,, This is all about having enough gas in the tank all day.
Morning of, I will eat a breakfast of Oatmeal and honey a couple of hours beforehand. Prior to start of swim, I will do a gel shot and water. On the bike I am taking along 3 large water bottles of water (24 ounces in each). I will have one water bottle loaded up with 12 scoops of Perpetuam and water for about 1560 Calories. I will also have a 7 ounce flask of Gel for about 650 calories and four Clif bars for 840 calories. So I will be carrying about 3000 calories in nutrition. Plus about 30 capsules of Endurolytes. I have my timer set for 15 minute intervals. In each hour I plan on consuming a half of clif bar (105) one gel shot (93) and a portion of the Perpetuam (222). With each interval I plan on cycling through one of the above components for a total of about 400 calories in each hour. Plus one water bottle of water per hour and 2-4 Endurolytes per hour. At each hand-up I will swap out and get three new water bottles. I am figuring about 400 calories per hour for the bike portion. So the 3000 calories will be enough to carry me through a 7 hour ride. My ride goal is to be between 6.5 and 7 hours.
On the run, I am only going to carry a baggie of Endurolytes and a flask of Perpetuam paste. The paste will be 10 scoops of Perpetuam for 1300 calories. I am relying on the nutrition provided on the course for Gels. I am going to shoot for 2-3 gels per hour plus the Perpetuam paste. I may also have some of the other stuff that is available on the course like fig newtons and pretzels. I will be using each water stop as a recovery / replenish zone. I will also take about 2-4 Endurolytes per hour,, more if it is hot.
