Week 19 5/15 through 5/21

The weekly goal was 14.5 hours and I fell shy of it.  I only got in about 11 hours and 30 minutes.  It was not due to anything but my own choice and also because of work.  Monday and Friday were Nada days.  In other words, I did nada, as in  nada damn thing.  The long ride was 87 miles.  We rode out to San Marcos and back. It was a great ride.  The weather was good.  We had a nice paceline going out and coming back.  We were really clicking along at a good speed.  It was a lot of fun riding at that speed and so close to the back wheel of another rider.  The physical stress of riding fast for a long time is intense but the mental strength that it took to concentrate on speed and distance was exciting.  We were cranking away at about 18-20 MPH and our wheels were about 10-12 inches apart.  You have to really focus on what you are doing and what the riders in front of you are doing.  It's like a video game of sorts.

The great news of the week was that my shin is getting better.  The physical therapist said everything is going well for it.  He gave it a massage and said that feels a little "crunchy".  The shin area where the nerve travels down, should be soft.  For my long run, I was able to get 90 minutes of treadmill running and 90 minutes of elliptical trainer.  Good progress!!!

Next week will be one that will test my discipline.  I am on the road all week, getting back on Thursday evening. I am booked at a hotel near a gym so I will have no excuse for not training,, of course,, I could come up with a bunch of excuses,,
